Nash was born at just 26 weeks, weighing only 2 lbs. 2 oz., after losing his twin in utero. He was diagnosed with omphalocele, a condition where internal organs grow outside the abdomen, and spent the first 476 days of his life in the NICU, enduring multiple surgeries and countless challenges.
“There’s a vacancy in my heart,” Nash’s mom, Kit, wrote during those early months. “In this space I hold the ideas of the mother I thought I’d be, the life I thought my son would have, and a new reality I’m actively grieving while simultaneously living.”
Finally, after one year, three months, and 19 days, Nash came home. Without home nursing, Kit and her fiancé Reid felt overwhelmed by the responsibility of providing all of his medical care. That’s when his doctor introduced them to Crescent Cove.
“Crescent Cove felt like a lighthouse of relief as we entered uncharted waters,” Kit recalls.
At Crescent Cove, expert nurses provide all of Nash’s medical care, while staff and volunteers offer pet therapy, massage, arts and crafts, and even pontoon rides on Twin Lake. Kit and Reid are able to enjoy precious moments together, knowing Nash is safe, happy, and thriving.
“At Crescent Cove, Nash isn’t behind—he is just where he needs to be,” Kit says. “It’s a reminder of the joy he brings to everyone around him and how the world is absolutely a better place with him in it.”
Now 3 years old, Nash is full of energy and a smile that lights up every room. He continues physical therapy to improve his mobility and occupational therapy to overcome his aversion to oral foods, a common challenge for babies who relied on tube feeding early in life. He loves his family dogs, Zeus and Archie, exploring wide-open spaces in his gait trainer, and every visit to Crescent Cove.
Nash’s story is one of courage, resilience, and the everyday joy that comes from finding the right support at the right time.
