My Motherhood Journey

My Motherhood Journey

Every mother has her own journey. Sometimes that journey can take us to places we never could have imagined. For me, my motherhood journey began when I was young and dreamed of being a mother. I imagined all the lovely normal stuff of parenthood – rocking my baby to sleep, reading bedtime stories, teaching my child to ride a bike, birthday parties, and preschool celebrations. With the birth of my first baby, the mother inside me was also born and I began to step forward into everything I had envisioned. Life was wonderful and simple for a couple years and I was blissfully unaware that it would ever be any other way. Little did I know that with the arrival of our second daughter Ivy in October of 2008, my motherhood plan would be shaken to the core and veer onto a new path.

Onward – Your Support Needed Now More Than Ever

On this journey to build a long-awaited residential children’s hospice and respite home in Minnesota, the urgency grows each day as we meet more families who could use this home. Many of you have journeyed with us for a myriad of reasons. Some of you know the need after having said good-bye in this world to your beloved child. Others are caring for a child whose life may be short, is intense and more meaningful than you can describe. For some it is simply that your heart draws you to take action, to make a difference. Our effort to build this home has peaks and valleys. Our celebrations and forks in the road cannot compare to the experience of our families of children with shortened life expectancies. However, we do share the experience of facing a challenge that is more than we imagined, yet filled with an abundance of joy and love. For everyone involved in our mission, we are reminded to keep going, ‘Onward.’

Ladies and Shopping = Spring Fundraising Success!

Thank you to volunteer Laura Hochban for hosting the fourth annual community fundraiser at Mainstream Boutique in Mendota Heights on April 11, 2015! Over $500 was raised as a portion of each purchase was given to Crescent Cove. Many more people in the community are aware of our mission and organization. If you are interested in hosting or organizing a community fundraising event, please contact Crescent Cove at or call 952-426-4711.

Children’s Lighthouse of Minnesota is now Crescent Cove

Children’s Lighthouse of Minnesota changed its name to Crescent Cove, a place of respite for kids and families, August 15, 2014.

We were informed that a Texas-based child care center that owns a U.S. registration for the trademark “Children’s Lighthouse” for use in connection with day care services, will be expanding into the Minnesota market. In light of this fact and in order to avoid possible future confusion between that organization and our distinct mission, it was in our best interest to change our name.

We engaged our board and council members, as well as a trademark attorney and professional branding agency to select our new name. We learned from our families that the name should reflect a home which is a place to feel normal and comfortable, a place to celebrate life and feel safe. Their input has been key throughout this process.

Why Crescent Cove?

After reviewing hundreds of names and their ability to be unique to our mission and community, Crescent Cove chose us! The crescent moon represents night and rest, the crescent moon is in transition; a metaphor of life. The moon itself is always present in one form or another; it revolves around us as our team will always be there for families. The crescent shape represents an embrace. A cove represents somewhere to find shelter or respite during difficult times.

While our name changed our mission did not, nor has the commitment of our board, advisory councils, volunteers and supporters who will make this home a reality.
