Chelsea is a self-described “beginner” runner, having only taken up the sport in the past year. But, she has already set a pretty big goal for herself — complete the 10-mile distance in the Twin Cities Marathon.
“When I learned that I could run the 10-mile and raise money for Crescent Cove, I had to sign up,” says Chelsea. “They have given our family so much, I am honored to support them and raise money for such a deserving cause.”
Crescent Cove is a participating charity in the 2023 Twin Cities Marathon, with a roster of runners who are raising money to support the kids and families we serve. Brooks, Chelsea and her husband Andrew’s son, received respite care at Crescent Cove.
Brooks was born with a rare genetic mutation, SCN2A, which causes epilepsy, autism, and other conditions. Chelsea and Andrew learned about Crescent Cove from a family whose daughter received respite care at our Home.
“Crescent Cove provided top-notch, quality care for our son, Brooks,” Chelsea says. “When our sweet Brooks stayed there, he had the time of his life! From music and art therapy to boat rides around the lake, Brooks always had a smile on his face.”
In 2022, Brooks passed away on his 3rd birthday. “He was our special, shining boy. He taught us the true meaning of love,” remembers Chelsea. “Crescent Cove provided incredible support when Brooks passed away. They have been an integral part of our family’s healing and bereavement process.”
Chelsea is running the 10-mile distance in honor of Brooks, and to support other families like hers. “Crescent Cove has done so much for my family. My inspiration for this race is the staff and volunteers who put smiles on the kids’ faces at Crescent Cove.”
Twin Cities runners line up bright and early on Sunday, October 1. Check out the course map for the marathon and 10-mile distance, and come cheer on Chelsea and other Crescent Cove runners! You can also donate to their fundraising campaigns. We are honored to have Chelsea and other families and volunteers who are running to support our mission. Good luck to all our runners!
